From May 28th to June 1st, the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam will celebrate its milestone 25th anniversary! This special edition offers a rich and diverse program featuring film screenings, music, art, masterclasses, and a retrospective series at unique locations, including LantarenVenster, FENIX Museum, Het Verhalenhuis Belvédère, and the Cruiseferry Merwehaven.
This year, the festival pays tribute to one of the most iconic figures in the Arab world: Umm Kulthum. The legendary Egyptian singer, often referred to as “The Star of the East,” captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful voice and timeless music. As 2025 marks 50 years since her passing, the festival will honor her enduring legacy.
The celebration opens with a spectacular multimedia concert, “The Phonograph Changed Me,” inspired by Umm Kulthum’s artistry. This unique performance blends live music, film, and visual art, creating an immersive experience. The concert is presented in collaboration with O. Festival, Marmoucha Orchestra, DoelenEnsemble, and artist-filmmaker Toni Geitani.
Join us in commemorating 25 years of storytelling, cultural exchange, and artistic expression at the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam! Ticket sales start soon.
